In news this week, in Mexico, the Court installs Calderon as Prez but the crisis continues, a group in the UK calls for the gov't to censor ... suicide, the owner of DataUSA Inc. a polling service which counted Prez Bush and Sorry Joe Lieberman among its customers, pleads guilty to fraud for altering poll data (big surprise is they got caught!), social networking site Facebook loses face over force-fed updates, Democrats in Missouri squelch democracy (rejecting initiative petitions), the Rainbow Farm murders remembered in Indiana, the Center for Constitutional Rights asks the court to stop the fed wiretappers, while anti-war activists travel from Texas to DC. Commentaries this week include US Rep. Ron Paul on eminent domain, Georgia Carry on 'Murder in a victim disarmament zone' Shadow Monkey on proving you're not a terrorist so you can travel, Helen Carter on 'Greenham Common remembered', an update on Logan Darrow Clements and the 'Liberty Hotel', John Ross on 'Death of the Mexican presidency', L.Neil Smith on 'One dollar gas' ... and more!

In police state news this week, in the USA, Connecticut Teen's worm sales squished by gov't thugs, Arrest of 'zombies' in Minnesota sparks criticism, spy cameras in South Dakota, and a federal judge rules that it'sOK to ban protests of prez, while in the UK, Reid says 'Civil liberties "made for another age'. On the bright side, protestors in Mexico continue their actions, including taking over tollbooths, as the gov't Court orders partial recount of the vote in the hotly contested prez election.

Commentaries this week include timely advice on 'How to talk to your Jewish friends about Israel', the awakening of the Muslim 'resistance' as Anti-war protests erupt across Muslim world, Claire Wolfe on "You aren't doing enough", a call to boycott Istrael and Resurrect the Peace Ship!, also articles on Eminent domain and other corporate welfare, a review of 'Sir, No Sir' (The story of the GI anti-war movement) and a tribute to the 'raging granny' and more!

LAND: The week in review July 30-August 5

In police state news this week, the white House, wary of possible war crimes charges,is drafting legislation to protect U.S. personnel from certain war crimes prosecutions. and, wants to 'formalize the police state' by expandomg the reach and authority of special military 'courts' (take action on the military courts issue: Stop Congress from defying the Supreme Court ) .... while in Pennbsylvania, a man is arrested for photographing cops and a California Journalist jailed over protest footage. Meanwhile, from abroad, Paris bans thong bikinis, nudity at 'Paris Beaches' event. On the bright side, in the UK, veteran Peace activist is elected to Labour NEC committee and appeal judges attack 'control orders' (translation: house arrest) for terrorist suspects, while in the US Las Vegas is sued over its idiotic homeless feeding law. Down in Mexico, civil resistance to the recent election continues, paralyzing Mexico City.

This week, We mourn the passing of social theorist and activist Murray Bookchin, who 'forged a new anti-authoritarian outlook rooted in ecology, dialectical philosophy and left libertarianism' .... and cheer the site launch of Movement of the Libertarian Left.

In police state news here in the US, Intelligence chiefs urge easing of spy rules, innocent people are placed on watch list to meet quota and the 'lickspittle, lock-step' U.S. Congress' scurries to 'not only confirm Bush's unrestrained, unconstitutional one-man rule -- it would augment it'and the ' Writing's on the wall for graffiti guerrilla' ... while Ghazi Walid Falah, a professional geographer who holds dual Arab-Israeli and Canadian citizenship and is a University Lecturer at the University of Akron in Ohio has been detained in Israel ... for taking pictures.

On the bright side, anti war activist Cindy Sheehan buys land in Crawford for a permanent 'Camp Casey', a Court victory (in the UK) for families of soldiers killed in Iraq, and a "Not guilty" verdict in the Irish ploughshares case, Mexico is 'dealing with rash of protests', freeway bloggers continue their outreach efforts nationwide, and an Iranian dissident snubs Bush on visit to the US.

Commentaries this week on the disintegrating situation in the MidEast, the 'The shape of things to come', and an especially poignant piece from a Vietnam Vet 'Whatever you did in war will always be with you'.

In police state news this week .... California Governor's office tracking political, anti-war groups, Net neutrality amendment dies, House continues war on patients and shoots down states rights, voting to continue to allow federal prosecution of those who smoke marijuana for medical purposes in states with laws that permit it, Homeland Security harasses the Rainbow Family, and in the UK, Big Brother keeps an eye on kids (if one child can be saved ...)On the bright side, the Senate rejects flag desecration amendment, Protest letters against gun meeting swamp UN and Military resistance against the Iraq War increases (help the resistance grow at the National GI Resistance Alert Network), while in anti-war news the Granny Brigade plans to march on DC on July 4, and anti-war activists plan a hunger strike to end the occupation of Iraq.

Commentaries this week on the idiotic flag desecration amendment, the American version of censorship, the death penalty, nuclear ironies, The occupation of Iraqi hearts and minds and more! In police state news this week, the US gets access to worldwide banking data, the 'Flag amendment' is one vote from passage in the Senate, and civil rights attorney Lynne Stewart (convicted of aiding terrorists last year ... the terrorist was her client) wants to know if the gov't eavesdropped on her; a student learns the high price of protest and a 68 year old anti-war protestor in England is arrested .... news from Iraq continues to be grim, grimmer and grimmest, as the 'hidden toll' surfaces ... 450,000 refugees now living in Syria ... and a portrait from the US embassy in Iraq of 'increasing danger and hardship faced by its Iraqi employees'. On the anti-war side, Lieutenant Watada refuses Iraq deployment orders, Cindy Sheehan supports deserters in Canada. On the bright side, the SAF and NRA win suit to overturn San Francisco gun ban (the city is appealing, of course), the ACLU sues Pentagon over anti-war group monitoring, US troops leave Crimea after protests, militant moms in the UK confront Tony Blair, an Anarchist cheerleader is elected to a county commission in FL, nude cyclists peel off around Spanish cities 'to protest against car-clogged streets and demand greater respect for pollution-free transport' and no jail for man disputing Phoenix city code officers.
