LAND: The week in review June 18-25
Source: Liberty Action News Digest

In police state news this week, the US gets access to worldwide banking data, the 'Flag amendment' is one vote from passage in the Senate, and civil rights attorney Lynne Stewart (convicted of aiding terrorists last year ... the terrorist was her client) wants to know if the gov't eavesdropped on her; a student learns the high price of protest and a 68 year old anti-war protestor in England is arrested .... news from Iraq continues to be grim, grimmer and grimmest, as the 'hidden toll' surfaces ... 450,000 refugees now living in Syria ... and a portrait from the US embassy in Iraq of 'increasing danger and hardship faced by its Iraqi employees'. On the anti-war side, Lieutenant Watada refuses Iraq deployment orders, Cindy Sheehan supports deserters in Canada. Commentaries this week on Gitmo, the anniversary of the infamous Kelo decision, why Bush's Iraq is worse than Saddam's, and more on the SCOTUS gutting of the 4th Amendment. Don't miss Claire wolfe's 'Midway through the year of silence' and Ernie Hancock on 'What the Libertarian Party should be doing' ...

LAND: The week in review June 11- June 17
Liberty Action News Digest

In police state news this week, SCOTUS guts the Fourth Amendment, the Pentagon sets its sights on social networking and kicks the press out of Gitmo, the Senate rejects Iraq withdrawal 93-6, and 40 activists are arrested at urban garden eviction. On the bright side, the SAF and NRA win suit to overturn San Francisco gun ban (the city is appealing, of course), the ACLU sues Pentagon over anti-war group monitoring, US troops leave Crimea after protests, militant moms in the UK confront Tony Blair, an Anarchist cheerleader is elected to a county commission in FL, nude cyclists peel off around Spanish cities 'to protest against car-clogged streets and demand greater respect for pollution-free transport' and no jail for man disputing Phoenix city code officers.

Commentaries this week on Lynne Stewart, Lt. Watada, Oriana Fallaci, Corey Maye, Waco, Ann Coulter, the Dixie Chicks, health as your 'ultimate freedom', the UK terror raid that backfired, another US coverup in Iraq and more!

The week in review June 4-June 10
Liberty Activist News Digest

In police state news this week, as the steady dismantling of our repulic continues, the gov't admits that "Emergency centers" could be used for "immigration" roundups [just don't call 'em concentration camps'] the House passes telecom bill, but leaves out 'net beutrality'.... High hopes for drone in LA skies [not for surveillance of honest citizens, of course, only for 'emergenices] .... the VA stolen data scandal gets larger and larger ... Appeals court backs Bush on wiretaps .... Army manual to skip Geneva detainee rule .... and privacy experts call Medical privacy law "essentially meaningless" .... while on the 'bright side', the first commissioned officer to publicly refuse to serve in Iraq stands up publicly and receives wide spread support. In news from abroad, in Zimbawe the army takes over black owned farms [you must grow maize, citizen-serf, the state needs maize], while in the UK police 'apologize' for last week's terror raid ... and release the two men they arrested, while in Russia, protestors hold free press rallies and US troops hunker down through protests.

In commentaries this week, several on the Haditha massacre, net neutrality, the Iraq occupation, the raid on Rep. Jefferson, gagging public employees, and civil disobedience. Don't miss Nat Hentoff on 'Closing our courts' Claire Wolfe on 'The paranoids are usually right' and Chris Floyd on 'The guilt of elitest cowards'.

LAND: The week in review May 27-June 3
Liberty Action News Digest

In police state news this week, from abroad, the UK govgoons 'silence the peace protestor of Parliament Square', Moscow flaunts its homophobic policy, and China marks Tiananmen Square anniversary by attacking protestors, while here in the US Bush signs ban on speech, assembly (goodbye, First Amendment), the SCOTUS sides with the gov't in shielding corrupt from whistleblowers, the ISP snopping proposal invokes terrorism [you'd rather be safe than free, right citizens?] and tests to chip kids (for their safety of course) are taking place in Arizona.

In other news, Gitmo hunger strikers have increased to 75 ... in one tiny bright new note, the 'war tax' on your phone bill is at long last repealed (Of course, this decision has nothing whatsoever to do with the war tax resistance movement). in other good news, Aaron Russo's new film gets a standing ovation at Cannes.

Commentaries this week on 'smoke-easies' in Canada, the 'blacklash' against the Dixie Chicks, the lack of young people in the anti-war movement, The Haditha Massacre and Memorial Day 2006 ....and don't miss Claire Wolfe on 'Tiny temptations to tyranny' and Vin Suprynowicz on drug freedom.
